Van Meter Park2Park 5k

1. Praises - I was very impressed by the absolute minimum distance for the race being a 5k. It is common for road race people to measure a course without accounting for people running the tangents. As a result, a race is called a 5k, meaning 3.1 miles, when the race is actually 3 miles, give or take. Criticism: 1. I doubt I am not the only one who would have preferred the race begin at 7 instead of 8, because it was 75 degrees when the race began and approximately 77 when I finished in 4th place. I do not envy the runners who did not finish until it was 80 (+) degrees, around 9 am. Even for Olympic 5k runners, 75-77 degrees is rough. I am aware the race officials cannot control the weather, but starting at 7 am in future years may be a wise precaution. 2. Age group awards and / or awards in general. I understand this was only the first year for the race. 3. Self-timed: Nothing wrong with this, per se. In future years, you may consider hiring a company to track times and / or awards to post online, like FitnessSports in Clive. I was happy to run in this race. I hope you continue to have it.

Nice race for a great cause

The race was great - really enjoyed the small town spirit and the course. Many runners are a competitive bunch, and it would help to have race timing and awards. To cut down on costs race t shirts could be optional for an extra fee.

Race review for the kids

Hadley said that she liked that people that were there to help tell her where to go and the arrows helped on the road but wasn't sure about running through the parking lot.

Super fun race, I really enjoyed the challenge. If I could change one thing, I'd recommend doing cups of water mid race so runners don't have to carry a bottle for the rest of the race. Everyone was very friendly; at one point I nearly missed a turn, but another runner guided me to the correct place. :) I'll likely run it again next year!

Mr.

Nice shirt, enjoyed the pancake breakfast. It would be nice if you did age group awards, 10 year age groups.
