Lace Up for a Legend: The Carl Granetzke Memorial 5K is Coming!

Join us to honor the incredible life and enduring spirit of Carl Granetzke, a beloved member of the Racine community and a true running icon. Carl completed over 800 races in his lifetime, always with his signature "Big G" energy and an infectious smile that inspired everyone around him.

On July 11, 2026, at 9:00 am, we'll be running one of Carl's cherished practice routes, a path he knew and loved. This isn't just a race; it's a celebration of a life lived in motion!

What makes this event so special? Every finisher will receive an actual medal from Carl’s personal collection—a unique piece of his racing history—along with a special memorial pin to keep his spirit alive.

Let’s come together, share some "Big G" energy, and make this a memorable tribute to a man who truly finished the race and kept the faith. All ages and paces welcome!

• Date: Saturday, July 11, 2026
• Time: Location: North Beach Oasis, 100 Kewaunee Street, Racine, WI 53402
  • Packet pickup: 8:00 am - 8:45 am
  • Race start: 9:00 am
• Course: Out and back course starting at the North Beach Oasis. Runners will head north on the paved bike trail, with beautiful views of Lake Michigan on their right. The course continues onto Michigan Blvd, where runners will turn around and head back to the finish.
• Awards:.
  • The top three male and female finishers in each age group (5-year increments) will receive recognition pins.
  • All finishers will receive a finisher's medal, won by Carl at a previous race (completely random), a commemorative pin to apply to the lanyard in memory of Carl Granetske, a complimentary beer (for those over 21), a goodie bag, and entry into a post-race raffle.
