I guess everything changes but I miss the good old days when you got a nice quality t-shirt with the large logo on the front and the sponsor names on the back and the beautiful (actual metal) medals you got back in the day. I still have running shirts from 20 years ago. I think 5Kevents is making promises they can't keep so they cheap out on the merch. No sponsor booths before / after the race, no water stations, they ran out of bananas. The volunteers stand and chit chat and don't really cheer you on. I'm willing to pay a bit more for better a better experience and for a good cause. I think they have a lot of growing up to do. I'll stick with the more established events. The Firecracker 5k in Kenosha last year was awesome! I don't think "we get our medals in China" is a valid excuse. I'm sure there are American made shops you can purchase these. Another reason I'm not into it. Ruins the whole experience and it's supposed to be fun and motivating. It's not.
Wish someone would have said the medal is not medal. Website says finishers medal which is deceiving. Cheap printed plastic is totally blindsiding experienced runners
