Wingmen for Wellness Race Description
Wingmen for Wellness
ABOUT: Hawkeye Flying Club
The Hawkeye Flying Club is a University of Iowa organization that enables students and cadets of AFROTC Det 255 to Fly and achieve their dreams of being pilots and Air Force officers. By donating, you allow these students and cadets to purchase flying hours, Air Force base visits, organizational events and networking opportunities. These are the most hard-working individuals you will meet. They are Wingmen, cadets, and Students.
Donating $1,$10 or even $100 can change the course of these students' lives.

CHARITY: https://stopsoldiersuicide2023.funraise.org/fundraiser/hawkeyeflyingclub We're leading the fight against veteran suicide – because this is personal. We have lost too many of our brothers and sisters in arms — people we lived and served alongside and counted as family. Our promise is this: we will not stand by while our friends are in crisis. We will rally together as allies, as family, as a community to do everything in our power to change the data on veteran suicide. We have a proactive and disruptive approach, focused on meeting at-risk individuals where they are. Our team provides personalized care and continued case management to help identify each individual's specific needs. Whether it's mental health support, housing assistance, or any other service, we work tirelessly to find the right and most effective tools.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course is 5000m (5k) long. This has been accurately measured by us with a professional measuring wheel. The course is at City Park, Iowa City. The course is run entirely on permanent paths. Some sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections of the course, or signs will be in place.
Please remember that the parkrun uses shared paths. For the continued success of the event, please give way to other park users. This won't hurt your time, it won't stop you from getting a PB and it will make sure everyone continues to enjoy the event.
Please, wherever possible walk, jog, cycle or use public transport when attending the event. If you do have to drive, please consider car-sharing to reduce our impact on both the environment and other park users. Please also watch out for other park users when arriving and leaving. Parking may be limited so try to arrive early.
Course Safety:
Wingmen for Wellness is a fun event organized by volunteers to benefit everyone. We wish to make the event as safe as possible, so participants, spectators and helpers are asked to take care of the following:
Please be considerate to the park and other park users at all times. Children under the age of eleven must be accompanied (within arm's reach) throughout the run by a parent, guardian or appropriate adult of the parent's choice.
Please arrive by foot, by pedal-power or by public transport if you can - your efforts help to reduce our impact on the park and the planet.
If you're driving to the run, please drive carefully even if you're late! When running, take care on uneven surfaces – whether on grass or on tarmac. Watch out for cyclists, other runners, pedestrians, children, dogs, wildlife, park animals, vehicles, park maintenance work, falling branches, bollards, posts and other obstacles around the course. Please ensure that you are fit enough to walk, jog, run 5k (3.1 miles) with us.
If you see a runner with a serious problem, please stop to help them out and get help as soon as possible. If you're watching, keep clear of runners on the course, and look after any children and dogs you may have with you. It is not permitted to run with a pushchair and a dog at the same time. Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection spread to humans by infected ticks. Consider protecting yourself by wearing repellent when at parkrun events in grassy or wooded areas. See lymediseaseuk.com for further details.
You are welcome to take part with one dog by your side, within reach at all times, on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead. Please also see this Support Site entry for further details about park running with dogs. Runners pushing buggies are welcome, but please take care of others around you and do your best to start at an appropriate place in the field for your pace.
We hope these tips help to ensure that the Wingmen for Wellness is fun and safe for everyone.
New to running? DOWNLOAD our ZERO to 5K program - Many newcomers to running become discouraged by the difficulty associated with the activity because they start too fast and push too hard. Their bodies rebel and they wind up miserable, wondering why anyone would possibly want to run in the first place. The Zero to 5K program has been specifically designed to instill a love of running and ends with participating in your first timed 5K.
We’re here to help you achieve your goal(s), be it your first 5K, improving your run, or simply offering a resource where you can run with a group that is designed to help each other stay motivated. You should ease into your 5K training plan gradually. In fact, the program we provide is less of a running regimen than a walking and jogging program. The idea is to transform you from a non-runner, getting you to begin running a 5K ( or 3.1 miles) and on a regular basis in just 4 weeks.
It’s easy to get impatient, and you may feel tempted to skip ahead in the program, but hold yourself back. Don’t try to do more, even if you feel you can. If, on the other hand, you find the program too strenuous, just stretch it out. Don’t feel pressured to continue faster than you’re able. Repeat weeks if needed and move ahead only when you feel you’re ready.
